How to search an image?

Searching by the image with Google is simple. In this article, let’s find out how Google’s image search works, take five minutes and find out how to make the most of it.

How many times have you ever wanted to find out the name of a plant, an object, or the name of a person whose name you don’t remember but who is present in your photo?

These are just some cases in which knowing how to use Google’s image search can come in handy, so let’s see how to make the most of it.

Search For Images with Google

The Google search guide explains how to search with an image to find out more about a painting or objects we photograph through a reverse image search.

As I wrote in the introduction, the classic example is that of the name of a plant.

If we do not know the name of a plant, we can take a photo and use it to obtain information or other similar images.

The results will allow us to find:

  • Search results related to the objects in the image
  • Similar images
  • Websites and blogs that contain the same or similar photos

We can take advantage of the image search from computers, smartphones and tablets. We have to go to google images ( images.google.com ) then click on the icon with the camera shape.

Choose whether to take a photo or click on upload an image and select it from your computer, smartphone, or tablet.

After uploading the image or taking a photo, wait for google to do its job, and you will be able to see visually similar images in an instant.

Google also allows you to search for images starting from a photo on the internet using the paste image URL function (i.e. copying the image address and pasting it on Google).

The Google Image Search Results

Google Images is an actual image search engine that allows us to conduct searches and obtain specific results.

At the top of the results, Google also provides us with suggestions to improve or refine our search:

  • Tag
  • Filters
  • Tools (Size, colour, type, date/time, usage rights, …)

As you can see from the image below, for example, I get searching for Valerio Novelli on Google. As a result, a series of photographs and the following tags:

  • Herbalife
  • Self Publishing
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Monetizing
  • Lazio
  • Blog
  • Piano

How to Search Images Online?

Therefore, other tools/websites that allow you to search for images online, among the most famous, are:

  • Tineye: site that will enable you to find images similar to the one we upload
  • Bing Images: is the Microsoft image search engine that works exactly like Google Images (it will allow you to do visual searches using images that can be taken, uploaded from a computer/smartphone/tablet or entered via URL)

Advanced Image Search

When we do an image search on Google, we can also use the advanced features that allow us to insert specific characteristics, and in particular:

  • Dimensions
  • Format (JPG, PNG, …)
  • Rights of use

They are three of the central and most used filters that we have available.

Search By Image Objects

Finally, one of the increasingly used image searches features is to find the products we want to buy (and perhaps search for the lowest price online).

A reverse search is an exceptional tool for those who shop or love to buy items at the best price!

If we see an object in a store, take a photo to see where it is possible to buy it online, if it is available on one of the most famous e-commerce sites and how much it costs!
